Bottle Palm (Hyophorbe lagenicaulis)

Bottle Palm

Hyophorbe lagenicaulis

  • Also called Palmiste Gargoulette, Pig Nut Palm
  • Smaller palm tree
  • The perfect accent for a tropical garden
  • A harder to find palm

The Bottle Palm is a critically endangered species with a stem resembling the shape of a bottle, which helps explain its common name. They are also recognized by their botanical name, Hyophorbe lagenicaulis, and this smaller palm tree can accent any landscape with a natural look and feel of the tropics. We love how their graceful, feather-like fronds can soften any landscape! We like to plant them near a front entrance walkway, and planted in groups is a sure-fire way to add interest to your landscape. They are native to Mauritius an island out in the middle of the Indian Ocean, and we have these harder to find palms available right here in Houston! The Bottle Palm growth rate is slow, so buy as big as you can if you want to add a natural maturity to your property today.

Of course, young Bottle Palms are also ideal for indoor use, making them a highly desirable plant for interior displays for offices or homes. They can grow well in filtered light or full sun exposure. Once established, they have little to moderate water requirements, and as they mature, the crown shaft and fronds boast a beautiful reddish color that fades into a pleasing grayish-green color. A good palm fertilizer is an excellent benefit for the Bottle Palm, so be sure to pick some up at any of our nurseries throughout Houston.

Use them indoors to clean the air or outdoors to beautify any outdoor space! The Bottle Palm is worth searching for, and the good news is that your search stops at Big Tex Tree Nurseries! We are the growers so that we can assure their quality, so visit us today and witness these distinctive palm trees for yourself.
