- Provides year-round interest
- Dense growth habit with compact, narrow canopies
- Can be used to create an evergreen privacy hedge
- A dwarf Southern Magnolia ideal for smaller yards!
- An excellent choice as a small specimen or accent
Like all grandiflora cultivars, the Teddy Bear Magnolia features leaves that are thick and leathery, and these leaves are accentuated by their stunning shiny dark green color. They originated in South Carolina and are also known as the Magnolia grandiflora ‘Southern Charm’, because one look at the very dense and upright pyramidal crown is all it takes to fall in love with them. Adding to its Southern Charm are the large creamy white fragrant flowers that dot the tree from May to October. Because of their compact, dense growth habit, we love to plant them in a row along low walls and fences to create a stunning evergreen privacy hedge!
Their smaller size makes them a great choice for both small urban and wildlife gardens. Tract-housing homeowners, urban homeowners and anyone with a small yard will be happy to know that the Teddy Bear Magnolia mature height will never get past the smaller to medium size range. They love to grow where there is plenty of full sun exposure and they have a moderate growth rate. As an added bonus, these are very easy to care for trees, too!
Plant these wonderful trees for the beautiful and aromatic Teddy Bear Magnolia flowers, for privacy, or to help our environment. No matter how or why, these Southern charmers are sure to add curb appeal.
