Its botanical name is Quercus macrocarpa and this eastern North American native loves to grow in the Houston climate. These trees are great for blocking unwanted views and adding privacy to your home. A large deciduous tree, with proper placement, it can block the sunlight in the summer and let the sun in during the winter. This is a park-style tree and they are perfect for expansive yards, where they can grow with a rounded shape and provide a great place for the family to gather around!
Heat tolerant, Bur Oak trees love to grow where there is plenty of full sun exposure. These are very easy trees to take care of, in fact, once established, they will require low to moderate water use and you can leave them alone and let them grow into a beautiful specimen loved by both people and small wildlife. These trees produce oak acorns, the preferred food for wood ducks, wild turkeys, white-tailed deer, rabbits, mice, squirrels and other small wildlife. They can have a long life span too, often living up to 300 years, so they can be enjoyed for generations to come!
