Fox Tail Agave (Agave attenuata)
Fox Tail Agave
- Also known as Lion’s Tail Agave, Swan’s Neck Agave, Agave cernua. Agave glaucescens, Agave pruinosa
- Thornless agave!
- Low maintenance plant
- Ideal in any garden oasis
This Fox Tail Agave is easy to recognize because they are such a beautiful plant! It is easy to see why these are among the finest of all agaves! One look at the texture, stunning blue-green foliage, and the equally impressive arching flower stalk is all it takes to fall in love with them. Native to Mexico, their botanical name is Agave attenuata, and we like to use them as a dramatic focal point or as an accent in any landscape. We also like to grow them in a decorative pot, where their graceful appearance makes them perfect for use near water fountains and pools. Oh, and as a bonus, these statuesque beauties are thornless too. These are versatile landscape plants, and they also look great in rock gardens, beds, and borders, as well as in Mediterranean and succulent gardens!
The Agave attenuata foxtail plant requires minimal maintenance, so they are the perfect choice for any inexperienced gardener. They can tolerate partial shade and love full sun exposure. Once established, they are also drought tolerant and will have little to moderate watering needs.
We love the Fox Tail Agave because they are a showy plant even when not in bloom. They work well in a modern landscape and around tropical plants. Mass planting them creates a stunning landscape scene full of interest and color that you just have to see to believe!
