Purple Fountain Grass is a classic clumping accent grass featuring beautiful bronze-purple foliage topped off with burgundy-toned soft flower spikes that arch gracefully. These Pennisetum plants add a touch of elegance and color to any landscape whether planted as a specimen or in groups. Originally from tropical Africa, southwestern Asia, and the Arabian Peninsula, this Pennisetum setaceum 'Rubrum' fountain grass is an excellent way to add quick annual color! The dramatic foliage is beautiful all year long, and it blooms from summer through fall. We like to plant them as a fluffy accent in dry landscapes, and they work wonders as an erosion control plant on slopes.
Purple Fountain Grass is adaptable to most soil types and prefers a spot in your yard that gets plenty of full sun exposure. A waterwise and easy care plant, once established, this Pennisetum will require little to moderate water use, so they are also an excellent choice for a rock garden or lined up against a light-colored stucco wall.
