The California Pepper is one of our larger trees that never loses its leaves. It has the classic Weeping Willow appearance, only it never loses its leaves and requires about a quarter of the water to thrive. California Peppers are known for the wide, sweeping branches that sprout fragrant leaves spotted with bright pink peppercorns that create a beautiful display in any setting. The twisting structure of the California Pepper’s trunk mixed with the burnt-orange colored bark give a sharp contrast from other trees commonly seen in Houston.
The California Pepper is remarkably tolerant to dry periods and clay-type soils for being an evergreen, once its roots have fully established. Landscapers will fit California Peppers into several landscape types to for a transition between areas or as a specimen tree, letting the original look of this specimen speak for itself.
